The Sportsman, Britain’s new gambling directory newspaper, is set to hit newsstands in the very near future. This new gambling directory, which is the first new national newspaper to hit the British market in 20 years, will focus on sports gambling, particularly on football. From his office at the gambling directory’s headquarters in Hammersmith, West London, The Sportsman’s editor- in- chief Charlie Methven mused on the challenge involved in putting out a gambling directory. "To collate all the information and then spit it out on to the pages is a real battle… [T]he product has to be right - it would be disastrous if it's not right. It needs to be bang on and people need to know the data is 100% reliable." However, despite the challenges, Methven was optimistic about the paper. "The launch will be soon, very, very soon…We said we would aim to launch by spring 2006. We will. It would be a failure to miss the World Cup." The gambling directory will resemble a tabloid in form as well as content, with splashy feature items and sensational print. The UK already has a national sports gambling directory: The Racing Post. That paper, however, is dedicated primarily to horse racing.
